College at Home for Nurses and All Health Care Professionals.

This guide book shows nurses and all healthcare professionals how they can earn an accredited undergraduate or graduate by distance education. Colleges all over the country are developing programs specifically for nurses and healthcare professionals in their clinical area like nursing, respiratory, radiology, medical records, etc. There are also distance degrees in a complimentary major like healthcare administration, health services, public health, education, gerontology, to name just a few.

 

Working adults have found going back to college almost impossible, especially healthcare professionals who must work long hours, rotate shifts, and change their schedules weekly. Distance education is not easier but it is more convenient. There is no worry about driving in bad weather, parking, or getting a baby sitter. Course work can be completed around your busy schedule rather than your busy life revolving around class schedules. The Internet is the latest delivery method for distance education but the correspondence model is still popular. The Internet encourages class participation using a newsgroup and assignments can be sent quickly to the professor.

 

There are other books about distance education for the general public. This one is different in that it is written specifically for ALL healthcare professionals and written by a healthcare professional who earned a bachelors, masters, and graduate certificate completely by distance education.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

 

Kenneth Brownson earned his Associate Degree as an adult and became a Registered Nurse. He then earned a BS, MS, and Graduate Certificate by distance education. If it had not been for distance education he would never have gotten beyond his associate. He is a Certified Psychiatric Nurse and a Certified Allied Health Instructor.

 

Ken is President of Adult Education Resource and a consultant in distance education. He has developed and taught distance courses at colleges in the US and abroad for over 10 years. More recently he has been teaching courses online at American Public University System, Baker College, Lakeland College, Park University, Southern New Hampshire University, and Widener University.

 

Ken has over 30 articles published in healthcare journals, several of which are continuing education courses for nurses (Nursing Spectrum, Nursing Management). He co-edited an edition of Hospital Materials Management Quarterly in November 2000.

 

He served as past Vice President of the Board of Directors at Brandywine Counseling, Inc. and is on the Editorial Board of The Health Care Manager (Aspen Publishers). He lives in the quiet historical town of New Castle, Delaware settled in 1651 and he is a member of the New Castle Historical Society.
